What is Orchestrated Oncology?

In biology, every cell needs certain, carefully balanced conditions to thrive. There’s a small army of little protein-based machines in cells that meticulously manage the flow of essential molecules in and out, through their protective membranes. Out with the bad, in with the good. You tip the balance of chemistry one way, the cell dies — the other way, the cell thrives.

We do everything we can to tip the balance in our favor.

The funny thing about cancer cells is that because of the way they evolve in your body, they develop defenses making them like cellular tanks against your own natural immune system.

But they’re not invincible. Certain cell death mechanisms (or pathways) are universal. For example — oxidative stress is a common way to push a cell out of its comfort zone to the point that its cell membranes literally dissolve. Which is why antioxidants (things that block this stress) are generally good for keeping healthy cells thriving. But what if taking antioxidants also protects your cancer when your chemotherapy tries to knock it out?

Pinpointing a disease’s strengths and weaknesses seems like the most obvious way to treat any illness.

Once we understand what treatments would be effective, we can design a specific plan for each patient’s situation. Can we push cancer cells beyond their safe limits? Lower their defenses? And how can we best keep healthy cells safe? Or clean up the debris after issuing a fatal blow, in order to minimize inflammation?

We manage the what, when to do it, and why, keeping in close collaboration with a patient’s oncologist, and dovetailing our findings with their exact standards of care. Our goal is to maximally disrupt a patient’s cancer through our carefully curated recommendations.
